One can’t help but
admire Mallika Sherawat’s dedication and
perseverance, and there’s little doubt that her
hard work is finally starting to pay off -- not many
Bollywood actresses can say they’ve costarred
alongside someone as world-renowned as Jackie Chan.
As the first Indian woman ever to be offered
the chance to pose in Playboy, Mallika Sherawat
has certainly come a long way from her humble
beginnings. Despite opposition from her fiercely
old-fashioned father, Mallika has successfully followed
her dream to become an acclaimed actress and she’s
certainly weathered her fair share of controversy over
the years.
Though
she did a small role in Jeena Sirf Mere Liye where she
played Kareena Kapoor's friend, Mallika's big break came
with Govind Menon's Khwahish.
Mallika caused quite a stir with her
unabashedly sexual performance, in which she
participated in a scandalous amount of on-screen kisses
-- 17, to be exact. The film firmly established Mallika
as a brassy, uninhibited actress who deserved to be
mentioned in the same breath as fellow Bollywood queens
such as
Aishwarya
Rai and
Lisa
Ray.
Mallika cemented her reputation as a Bollywood sexpot in
2004 with the release of Murder, which cast the
actress as a married woman who embarks upon an illicit
affair that leads to disastrous consequences. The film
proved Mallika had no qualms about showing plenty of
skin on the big screen. After landing a nomination for
Best Actress at India’s Zee Cine Awards, Mallika
discovered that she now had the status and reputation to
essentially write her own ticket.
Her
increasingly prominent stature brought her to the
attention of Jackie
Chan, who cast Mallika as an Indian Princess in his
2004 action epic The Myth.
For
long considered actress of masses she wooed and won over
the multiplex audience with the success of Pyar Ke side
Effects. Her forthcoming films include a Hollywood film
Unveil and Fauj Mein Mauj. |
