Abraham is a supermodel turned actor who made his
film debut with Jism. Since then he has gone strong
with every release and is considered on of the most
bankable stars in Bollywood. With success of Water
Abraham has truly arrived and his acting career has
taken an international turn.
Born in Mumbai, India on 17th December 1972 John
Abraham's father Christian from Alwaye, Kerala and his
mother is from Iran. Being a Catholic his father added
the name 'Abraham' to his son John as a mark of respect
to the first patriarch and progenitor of the Hebrew
people in the Bible.
Abraham attended Bombay
Scottish School and later
Jai
Hind College. He was an avid sportsman, captaining
the college football team. He later earned an MBA degree
from MET.
Abraham's
revolutionary looks, macho body, baby smiles and nice
character made him an instant hit on the modelling scene
and soon he became the highest paid supermodel in India.
Being a hot star in the modeling world, he made his film
debut in 2003. Not like usual Bollywood heroes who debut
in male oriented action subjects, he accepted the erotic
emotional Jism (2003). Unfortunately the film didn't do
well, but his work was noticed widely. Later the same
year came the paranormal Saaya (2003) and romantic Paap
(2003); none of them did well at box-office.
His first blockbuster smash hit
came in the year 2004 when he took the antihero role 'Kabir'
in Dhoom.
Abraham's noteworthy films
include Kabul Express, Dhoom, Jism, Babul, Salam-e-Ishq,
Zinda, Virudh, Garam Masala and Kaal.
Abraham's forthcoming films
include No Smoking that is being directed by Anurag
Kashyap and Deepa Mehta's new film Luna where he acting
with Rachel Weisz and
Dustin Hoffman.
