in the first place never wanted to be an actress.
Bipasha Basu who was deemed an ugly child till her
early teens is today considered on of the hottest
actresses in Bollywood.
This dusky beauty from Calcutta has always been
conscious of her looks as she was deemed an "ugly
child" till her early teens. "Until the age of 14"
is how she puts it. But as she grew up, the gawky
teenager turned into a swan and by seventeen,
Bipasha Basu had undoubtedly blossomed into a
tall lissome beauty. Her friends forced her to
participate in the Ford Supermodel Contest, which
she won at 17 and the rest is history. Winner of
Tulips Miss Super Vivacious in the same contest;
there has been no looking back for Bipasha.
Born and brought up in Calcutta, Bonny, as her family
fondly calls her came into limelight when she won Ford
Supermodels Contest. Flown to New York after the
contest, Bipasha was spotted by much acclaimed
photographer Steven Mizhel who gave her an international
break by featuring her in Vogue magazine.
Hardly had Bipasha landed in
India, and she was inundated with offers from all over.
Ads, she accepted, but films were the last thing she
planned to venture into. She had no plans of joining the
film industry but one day, film-maker J. P. Dutta
telephoned her with an offer. It was for a ‘perfect’
role in Aakhri Mughal. Bipasha took it up without a
murmur. Later, when it was shelved, and Refugee was
launched, she refused the role.
Already
a very popular name Bipasha finally decided to take a
plunge into Bollywood with Ajnabi where she starred
opposite Bobby Deol and Akshay Kumar. With the
success of Raaz and Jism she became the toast of the
town. A

forthcoming films include Mr Fraud where she stars
opposite Ajay Devgan and Sanjay Dutt.
