DJs
of almost all discotheques prefer to play Mika's
songs to set the ball rolling. He is one singer
whose songs are full of reverberations - just apt to
set the party mood right. Younger brother of
renowned pop singer Daler Mehndi, Mika sings with a
nasal twang, a talent that has attracted intense
fans and severest critics, though unarguably he can
make people of all age groups to dance.
Just
like his brother, music runs is Mika's veins. His
father Ajmer Singh Chandan is classical-trained
musician of the old school and his late mother
Balbir Kaur had the knowledge of folk music. This
combination inspired Mika to look towards music as
an art form that is all fun and still has a
serious dimension. Mika started to play tabla when
he was eight, harmonium when he was 12 and guitar
at 14. He had a hit music album Sawan mein lag
gayee aag to his credit at 24.
Mika
(real name Amrik Singh), was born on June 10 in
Durgapur, West Bengal. Mika has over the years
released a handful of albums out of which Gabru is
the one that stands out. His latest album Something
Something has become a big hit too. Mika is
currently recording his new album and has also
forayed into playback singing. Ganpat from Shootout
at Lokhandwala, Mauza Hi Mauza from Jab We Met and
Dil Mein Baje Guitar from Apna Sapna Money Money
have become big hits.
