Jasbir Jassi surpassed the regional fame of
Punjabi singer and became a nationally known
artist with Dil Lai Gayi Kudi Gujrat Di.
Jasbir Jassi was so passionate about music
that he quit engineering to study classical
music. After his initial training under V.S.
Jolly, Jassi trained under the guidance of
famed Sufiana musician, Puran Shah Koti. In
1989, he left his hometown of Gurdaspur and
came to Patiala in search of a career in
music. In Patiala, he met Harpal Tiwana, a
renowned theatre personality and started out
by singing and composing songs for stage
shows.
After staying in theatre for two years, he
moved to Delhi, where he met renowned music
director Charanjit Ahuja who helped him in
widening his skills. Jassi sang for Punjabi
films like Lambardar, Zakhmi and Passport and
even had a big hit with the song, "Channa Ve
Teri Channani" in 1993. After that he recorded
a popular Punjabi album "Balle Balbiro Balle".
His first album with Times Music, Dil Le Gayee
became a huge hit on the strength of the
immense popularity of the title track. He
followed Dil Le Gayee with Kudi Kudi which
further helped establish him as one of the
foremost names in the Punjabi Pop scene.
Since
