Humaira Arshad is quite
a familiar name to Pakistani music, and her
voyage into the field spans over a decade,
having its own share of ups and downs.
Humaira used to accompany her
mother to majalis for sooz khwani from an early age,
where her vocal talent was noticed by many. The
appreciation made her keen to pursue music on a
professional basis and soon she landed her first chance
as a contestant in a music programme, Music Challenge on
PTV, where she won hands down. The event which, she
claims, changed her life drastically and brought her
recognition was when she was selected to present a
tribute to music legend Madam Noor Jehan.
Humaira is also known for her
stage antics and dance scores at concerts. I like to see
people enjoying my songs, and I get more response for
fast-paced tracks. I think my voice is suitable for all
kinds of music and it’s just that I have done so many
fast tracks that I am more widely known for them. But I
have got a good response for my slow numbers, too, such
as Wus Ve Dhola Tu Ankhiyaan De Kol. At the same time, I
admit that I personally prefer fast numbers,” she
says.
