Shibani is
a young, vivacious, singer-composer from Delhi,
India, well-known as one half of the
Aslam-Shibani duo of ‘Ho Gayi Hai Mohabbat’
fame. The duo won the prestigious ‘Best Video
Award’ at the Channel [V] awards in 1998
besides being nominated as the ‘Best Indian
Band/ Duo’ at the same awards.
This petite
singer, with a voice that brings with it a whiff
of romance, started her career as a singer doing
a number of live shows with big names such as
Remo Fernandes, Bally Sagoo, A.R.Rehman, Kamaal
Khan & Baba Sehgal. Her training in both
Indian and Western Classical Music makes her an
excitingly versatile performer, which has been
proven through her numerous live shows, music
albums and a host of jingles including the
Signature tune of AIR FM, which is currently
on-air on all the FM stations in India.
Shibani
got her first major break when she was signed
on by India’s biggest and oldest music
company HMV to release her debut album along
with a singer-composer Aslam from Madras. The
album released in May 1998 was titled ‘Ho
Gayi Hai Mohabbat’ and had a picturesque
video shot by ace Hindi film-cinematographer
Santosh Sivan. Incidentally, the video is,
till date, one of the most requested video on
all major music channels. This video was
followed by a video on her song Dil Se Dil Ko.
After this, Shibani was selected by the
Director General of Voice of Asia to represent
India at the annual International Music
Festival called ‘AZIA DAUYSY’ (Voice of
Asia), held at Kazakhistan in August ’98.
The festival, which saw performing artistes
from all over the world including Peter Andre,
had big artistes such as Alisha, Remo
Fernandes & Daler Mehndi representing
India in previous years.
In October ’99, Shibani released her 2nd
major album ‘Thodi Thodi Saanjh’ (Archies
Music) which was not only an expression of her
voice, but also displayed her skills as a
music composer. She teamed up with talented
producer Saibal Basu & lyricist Jaideep
Sahni (of the movie Jungle fame) on this album
besides collaborating with Shantanu Moitra (of
Ab Ke Sawan fame) on one of the tracks. The
folksy, title track was shot by one of
India’s most succesful video director team
of Bobby & Ahmed Khan as a video.
Shibani recorded a duet Pyar De De, Pyar Le Le
in U.K. with the famed singer Taz of Stereo
Nation earlier this year. This Hindi-English
track forms part of a multi-artiste (Hans Raj
Hans, Ranjit Mani, Sukhwinder Singh and more)
album called ‘Everything But The Girl’
released in U.K. by SOHI 1 Records.
With the
film Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Shibani forayed into
playback singing and her song Sajna Aa Bhi Jaa
became a bumper hit. She also sung a number in
the film Zinda. |
