 From the tender age of 3 years, when Sonali began responding to melody and rhythm, it was evident that she would have a lot to do with music.
Born in Bhopal, Sonali was brought up in a musical environment. Her parents, who were professors in music, were instrumental in inculcating and nurturing the talent which their child prodigy possessed.
At the tender age of four years, Sonali performed on stage for the first time to a standing ovation by the
mesmerized audience. At the age of six, she won an all-India music competition and received an award from the President of India. Sonali completed the first few years of her education at Rohtak (Haryana) and shifted to Mumbai in 1986 after a chance meeting with the renowned music composer and guru Kalyanji
(Kalyanji Anandji).
With a very strong base in classical music, Sonali is equally adept at ghazals and devotional songs as she is with classical and popular music. In the last few years, she has sung for many Hindi films like 'Do Qaidi' with Kishore Kumar, 'Kaash' with Mohd. Aziz, 'Khoon Bhari Maang' with Sadhna Sargam, 'Pratigyabadh' (solo) etc. and for many TV serials and jingles.
Sonali has also sung innumerable songs for films and music albums in regional languages like Oriya, Assamese, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Rajasthani, Nepali, Punjabi, Gujarati and Marathi.
