From acting to VJing, modelling and singing, Raageshwari has left her mark on each canvas.
But it as a pop singer that she is known today to
her fans.
Raageshwari was born in Mumbai
on the July 25, in a middle-class family, to
Trilok Singh Loomba, a National Award winning
musician and government servant, and his wife
Veera. She has an elder brother, Rishabh who is a
filmmaker.
The Sanskrit
word Raageshwari means "the queen of ragas
and wife of the Lord". As a teenager, Raageshwari
signed her first film as an actor, Zid
(released in 1994) She then acted in hit films,
including David
Dhawan's Aankhen
(1993) and Main
Khiladi Tu Anari (1994).Later, Raageshwari
forayed into television, acting as VJ
for the popular countdown shows, BPL Oye.
Television proved to be a
great platform as it provided Ragz with vast
exposure, cutting across all age groups and giving
her a diverse fan base. Music, had always had more
than a palpable presence in her house and one day
she stumbled upon a very simple and yet beautiful
tune in her father’s music room.It was from this
hummable and haunting tune that ‘Duniya’
was born. Raageshwari chose to sing this song on
her father’s behest for he felt that lyrics of
this song were able to capture the essence of
Raageshwari’s personality. The song Oye Shava
from the album became a big hit and Raageshwari
was established as the new voice of Indian pop.
Since then Raageshwari has
released four albums - Pyar Ka Rang, Sach Ka Saath
and Y2K - Saal Do Hazaar. Raageshwari resurfaced in
the music scene in 2006 with her new album Sagari
Rayn.
