 Baba
Sehgal is the original Indian rapper who made rap music a
household name with his hit numbers like 'Thanda thanda
pani', 'Aaja meri gaadi mein' and 'Hakuna Matata. Harjit
Singh Baba, popularly known as Baba Sehgal, craved a
niche for himself with his whacky Hindi-English lyrics,
wild sense of humour and earthly rhythms thus bringing
rap music to India in his own style.
Baba Sehgal was an engineer,
but did not want to work as one and started doing what
he wanted to, i.e. singing Dil Dhadke. He had the
distinction of being the first Indian music video ever
to be shown on MTV Asia (which was broadcasting out of
Hong Kong at the time).
He has released 22 albums till
now, though they haven't all met with the same level of
commercial success. He released 'Main bhi Madonna',
Thandaa thandaa paani (1992), Dilruba(1990),
Alibaba(1991) and many more albums. He almost always
writes, composes and sings the songs in his albms
himself. He was the music director of he movie 'Dance
Party' which had a popular song "kapurthala se aaya
hoon, tere liye laaya hoon, Orange kurta peela pajama.
