Abhijeet is one of the top names when it
comes to playback singing in Hindi films.
Be it Shah Rukh, Hrithik, Akshay or Salman,
Abhijeet has lent his voice to all the top
stars and sung an array of popular tracks
from Ole Ole to songs for the film
Gangster and Main Hoon Na.
Born in Kanpur, Abhijeet is the youngest of
four siblings. Although his parents were
against the idea, Abhijeet went against
their wishes and became a singer.
He left home for Mumbai in 1981 to study
Chartered Accountancy. Due to his
fascination for singing and music, he
decided to pursue a career in playback
singing and quit Chartered Accountancy.
Despite being gifted with a melodious voice,
he struggled for a long time.
After his long struggle in Bombay, he
received a call from R.D. Burman to sing for
Dev Anand's sons debut film. Abhijeet also
sang with Kishore Kumar, his idol, in the
same film.
Abhijeet's big break came with Salman Khan
starrer where music composers Anand and
Milind gave him a chance to playback for
Salman. He sang three songs - Ek Chanchal
Shokh Haseena, Chandni Raat hai and Har
Kasam Se Badi Hai for the film and they all
became hit tracks. After that there was no
looking back for him. Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin,
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Yes Boss, Phir
Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani, Asoka, Gangster,
Chalte Chalte, Khiladi, Yeh Dillagi, Main
Hoon Na, the list of films featuring
Abhijeet's vocal has just grown.
