A multi-faceted singer, heralded as the
nightingale of South India, Chithra has built a formidable
reputation and repertoire as a playback singer for
Hindi and South Indian films.
Her first break in
Hindi music was under SP Venkatesh's music with
Khushi Aur Khushi, which unfortunately never saw
the light of the day. Her other recordings were
for Love, Jagruti, Pardes, Virasaat, Sapnay, Mann,
Suryavansh, Ziddi... and many more. Her number 'Jahan
Piya Wahan Main' from Pardes was received with great
appreciation. Chitra now is a permanent
fixture on Hindi film music scene.
Chithra's first foray in the Indipop
world was an album with the Voodoo Rapper. Though
she was appreciated, the album did not do too well.
Then came 'Piya Basanti Re' with Ustad Sultan Khan and
Sunset Point with Gulzar.
After Lata Mangeshkar, Chithra
is the first Indian woman singer to perform at the
famous Royal Albert Hall in London. Chithra has numerous
international concerts to her credit. She has mesmerized
audiences in India, USA, UK, France, Canada, Australia,
Germany, Switzerland, Norway, Denmark and several
other countries with her live performances.
