was a huge controversy when her video "Kaanta
Laga" was released. In the video, she allegedly
appears in a thong,
reading a pornographic
magazine, and performing sexual innuendos.
At that time, in India
such videos were not a norm. And many conservative
groups protested against the video and
unsuccessfully sought a ban. She was accused by many
conservative activists
of promoting western pornographic culture
on a fairly conservative Indian society.
However, due to the publicity garnered by the
controversy, the song went on to become one of the
biggest hits. The crowning glory for the song was
when Shefali performed the number in super hit film
Mujhse Shaadi Karogi?
Besides Kanta Laga Shefali
also featured in the remix song Kabhi Aar Kabhi Paar
which also became a big hit. She vanished from the
scene after her marriage but has recently got back
to dancing with appearance in the song Pyar Humme
Kis Mod Par Aaya.
