Born in the late 70’s in Nantes, France, Mathieu
(aka
M.Mat) discovered electronic
music in the mid-90’s. Through the rave-scene,
he discovered first the minimal and funky techno
(Laurent Garnier, Carl Cox, Derrick May, Jeff
Mills, Plastikman), then the club scene and
house music (Motorbass, DaftPunk, Jack de
Marseille, DJ Sneak).
In 1998, with two friends sharing the same
passion for electronic music, Mat created
“Groove is in the Heart”, an association which
organised parties focused on the diversity of
electronic music (with Techno, Drum’n’bass,
House, Down Tempo with live singer, saxo,
percussionist…) and giving a keen attention to
the décor as well.
At the same time, M.Mat also bought his first records, mainly
House and Tech-house published on Chicago and
Detroit underground labels (Purpose Maker,
Camouflage and Cajual Rec) …Then started
practicing on his fellows’ turntables. And
soon enough got the confidence to play his
funky records in front of an audience. During
summer 2000, Mat went on a trip to US with
DJ Al to play at the E-Nation gigs.
Year 2000 saw M.Mat invade India with his
concept of Fresh Airparties. M.Mat perfomed in more than 30 Indian cities he spun house music
with
live instrument like tabla, saxophone, Congas
and flute.
Now
based in
Bombay
, M.Mat continues his musical journey into
electronic grooves with new artists and
producers from all over the world.
