After the Dagar brothers, if there is a pair that
has been successful in enriching and enhancing the
glorious magic of Dhrupad form of music, it is the
dynamic Gundecha brothers. Umakant and Ramakant
Gundecha today are India's leading exponents of
the Dhrupad style of music. They are amongst the
most active young performers of Dhrupad in Indian
and international circuits. Like their seniors,
the Dagar Brothers, they have brought Dhrupad to
the forefront on the concert platform.
Born in Ujjain in Central India, the Gundecha
Brothers
started their initial training in music under the
Madhav Sangeet Mahavidyalay in Ujjain and received
conventional university education and trained under
Pt Pramod Shastri, Pt. Ramakant Dube and Shri
Ramanarayan Jina.
One of their specialty is to have adopted Hindi
poetry by great poets Tulsidas, Kabir, Padmakar,
Nirala in the Dhrupad style.
Their concert history is exhaustive, having been an
integral part of all of India's prestigious music
festivals, as well as important international music
festivals and institutions in Europe, U.S.A, U.A.E.,
Hong Kong and Singapore. Wherever they go, their
music conquers the hearts of listeners with their
subtle and soulful renditions. |
