Uday Bhawalkar is one of
India's most talented Dhrupad singers, acclaimed
by the Western public as well as by Indian
classical music connoisseurs.
He is following the glorious tradition of
musicians like Zia Mohiuddin Dagar, Zia Fariduddin
Dagar (both his teachers), and of the Older Dagar
Brothers, whose music and talent created an event
in the West 40 years ago.
Uday Bhawalkar was born in M.P. in 1966.
He started his training in music at the age of
eight from his sister.
In 1981 he received a four-year scholarship from
Ustad Allauddin Khan Sangeet Academy to learn
Dhrupad in 'Guru-Shishya Parampara', this was
under Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar at the Dhrupad
Kendra, Bhopal.Later he continued his training under the elder brother of Fariduddin, Ustad
Zia Mohiuddin Dagar the renowned Veena maestro.
