Anup
Jalota is popularly known as the "Bhajan Samraat"
(Emperor of Bhajans) of India, due to his
unending string of hit Bhajan albums. But the
fact is that Anup Jalota is equally proficient
ghazal singer.
born in Nainital to a musical family, Anup Jalota
studied music at Lucknow university. Like so many other
singers he was to struggle early, singing film songs on
stage. He came to Bombay in 1974.
Jalota got a break when he got to sing for film Sirdi
Ke Sai Baba, which became a big bit. But his heart
was not in film music. After a successful concert tour
in UK, he got a deal with Music India and released the
album Shamakhana
which was quite a hit. Soon other albums like
Moods
and Farmaish were released.
Jalota is a prolific singer who has done over 4000 live
concerts and released about 150 ghazal and bhajan
albums, the most famous being Takhaiyul.
