Silk
Route brought the sound of the mountains into
the Indipop scene. Just one song Dooba Dooba from
their debut album was enough to mark their presence in
Indi-pop scene forever.
Fronted
by lead singer Mohit Chauhan, the other members of
Silkroute are Kem Trivedi and Kenny Puri.
Silkroute's debut album Boondien was released
in 1997. While the song Dooba Dooba raced to
the top of the charts, the album virtually swept
Channel V awards
bagging the Best Debut, Best Song, Best Music Video and
Best Indian Group awards.
The music of Silk Route, they insist, is very
much their own, even as they are constantly
reinventing their sound and adding to its
repertoire. “We come from fairly different
backgrounds and what comes together in our music is
this confluence of sounds,” explains Kem. Inspired
by the likes of Sting, Simon & Garfunkel and
Dire Straits, Silkroute's live performances have a
very acoustic feel.
The group's two albums, Boondein and Pehchan,
had three-and-a-half years between them, and yet the
new album manages to retain the magical quality of
the first one. |
