Born
and raised in Birmingham, England,
Apache Indian merged raggamuffin with
Indian music as well as influences from
mainstream pop and hip hop and started a
trend that has found a large following. He
is the only Asian to date to have seven Top
40 hits on the UK Singles Chart. In a career
of more than a decade Apache Indian
has recorded with International artists such
as UB40, Boyz II Men, Shaggy, Boy George
among others and is credited with creating a
new hybrid sound - Bhangramuffin.
Apache Indian was born and raised in
Birmingham, England, a working class city
with a large immigrant population,
especially of Jamaican and Indian origin. He
burst into the music scene with smash hit
album No Reservation in 1992. With his
second album Make Way For the Indian Apache
Indian scaled heights hitherto unknown for
Asian artist. Boomshakalak, the smash hit
from the album was featured in five
Hollywood films. The song has featured in 52
commercials to date.
Apache Indian in a career spanning over a
decade has released seven albums, sold over
11 million albums, won numerous awards
and toured world extensively.
Apache prides himself as being a singer /
songwriter and performer. His lyrics are
inspired by his personal quest to define his
identity in a multicultural world where
tradition definitions of religion and
culture have to be re-evaluated.
