Raj
Kumar Rizvi exudes a familiar old world charm — the one that
brings back many memories of his mentor Mehndi Hassan and of
course his own repertoire rich with classic ghazals. Popularly
known as Dark Prince of Ghazals, Raj Kumar normally sings with his talented wife Indrani
Rizvi.
Born in 1946 at Mandwa in Rajasthan to a musical
family, Raj Kumar has received music training from his father Noor Muhammad of Kalawant
Gharana.
He also learnt sitar from Ustad Jamaluddin Bharatiya, a disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar. He became interested in classical ghazals and was the first desciple of Mehdi Hassan.
Rajkumar Rizvi composes the ghazals he sings based on Raagas. He starts his ghazals with sargam and Alaap. His pronunciations of poetry are clear and precise,
emphasizing the aesthetic implication of the Ghazal and projecting it’s emotional content. Apart from giving ghazal concerts in India and abroad, he has released several albums.
